CHASE BLOG

There's a chance of storm and tornadoes in northern Oklahoma tomorrow, near the triple point intersection or along a stalled front. The setup has capping and low level wind field problems, but improves into the evening hours when a strong low level jet cranks in advance of an approaching trough. It's a matter of personal preference how to play a setup like this. If you stay close to the triple point, you can find yourself too far west to catch storms along the front to your northeast. Likewise, if you patrol the front, storms to your southwest could potentially initiate and produce tornadoes while you rush back into position. This is especially troubling tomorrow since the chance for daylight storms seems small owing to a lack of convergence and the aforementioned convective inhibition. You'd have to be right there. What to do, what to do. I'll probably try and hold my options open as long as possible and loiter in Woodward until something compels a choice.

Nighttime chasing seems like a sure bet tomorrow. In anticipation, I improved my data suite a little today with the addition of a Sprint broadband card.

For some reason Mike and Eric's book, Adventures in Tornado Alley: The Storm Chasers, is available online in the United States six weeks earlier than anticipated. This is probably well-timed for the start of severe weather season. Right now the book is discounted on Amazon for under $20. It will likely sell for far more than that in retail stores. Please see my longer review of the book below.

On chasing: I'm out of the game this week because of previous plans. Good luck to all.

Denton snowstorm!

The city of Denton saw over eight inches of snow this afternoon and early evening. Students around the University of North Texas, which canceled classes early in the day, took advantage of the rare winter event.

Sunday in southwest, Oklahoma, near Roosevelt. I'll write a small report this weekend. Cool little HP to start the season.
